Minimize Master student internship in Flood mapping algorithm using optical and SAR data

Date added: 31 July 2017

Organisation: Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST)

Location: Belvaux, Luxembourg

The remote sensing scientists and hydraulic engineers at LIST have recently developed an automatic flood mapping algorithm based on SAR images. In the framework of the proposed internship we aim to continue developing the algorithm with the objective to increase its performances, especially in urban areas. To this aim, it is planned to include optical imagery in the processing chain in order to increase the classification accuracy.

As a member of the team the candidate will further contribute to the ongoing effort to create a collection of flood extent maps at global scale.

Education and competencies:

  • The candidate should be preparing or having a master's degree in electric engineering with a background in signal processing, SAR and/or optical satellite image processing.
  • Good programming skills and knowledge of ENVI/IDL, Matlab and GIS software are considered assets.
