Within the Atmospheric and Imagery Applications Competence Area (AIA CA), of the Remote Sensing and Products Division (RSP), the Junior Remote Sensing Scientist – AMV will support the development and scientific validation of Atmospheric Motion Vector (AMV) products derived from the estimation of the displacement of clouds and other atmospheric features observed in successive overlapping satellite images.

The main duties of the post will be as follows:

  • Develop or improve algorithms for the extraction of wind vector products de-rived from the estimation of the displacement of clouds and other atmospher-ic features observed in successive overlapping satellite images (Atmospheric Motion Vector -AMV) from EUMETSAT and third party satellites;
  • Prototype processing software for the extraction of AMV products;
  • Support the scientific validation of AMV products, based on interactions with the community of users of EUMETSAT´s products and services;
  • Assist with in-house and external scientific studies relevant to new scientific concepts for the future development of Atmospheric Motion Vector products.
