Minimize Full-Time Research Support Officer - SAT-FIRE

Applications are invited for a Research Support Officer I to work on the SAT-FIRE research project financed by the MCST Space Research Fund. The objective of the SAT-FIRE project is to improve the spatial resolution challenges of current Earth Observation Satellite systems by fusing complementary data from different spectral images from Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-3 data to improve both spatial and temporal resolution and quality of the satellite images. This will allow for more accurate predictions of marine currents, aiding divers, search and rescue operations and coastal monitoring. The Research Support Officer I may also be required to work on any other projects undertaken by the Department of Communications & Computer Engineering within the Faculty of Information & Communication Technology.


The main duties and responsibilities of the appointee will consist of the following:

  • develop image registration techniques for satellite imagery in coastal regions;
  • endeavour in generating technical and scientific conference/journal papers;
  • assist in the dissemination process via workshops, seminars and other public outreach activities;
  • travel and attend training courses, meetings and/or conferences as the need arises; and
  • perform any other tasks as instructed by the project coordinator and key experts.
