The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of surface hydrology. The candidate is expected to perform basic research in hydrologic processes at or near Earth's surface. Areas of interest include but are not limited to fluvial, lacustrine, and/or estuarine systems, fluvial geomorphology and sediment transport, flooding, and relationships to ecological and climate systems. The ideal candidate will employ quantitative tools and will integrate computational approaches with direct and remotely sensed observations.

Systems Engineer

As an UrtheCast Systems Engineer, you will support the UrtheCast OptiSAR space systems development effort, with lead responsibility on the real-time onboard planning subsystem. The onboard planning subsystem will generate an optimal schedule in real-time to task the satellite to acquire imagery, taking into account complex system and resource constraints. The system engineer will lead this subsystem from specification through algorithm development, design and implementation to operational capability in flight. The Systems Engineer is a key member of the engineering team and will support broader OptiSAR mission system engineering as needed.

Master student internship in Flood mapping algorithm using optical and SAR data

The remote sensing scientists and hydraulic engineers at LIST have recently developed an automatic flood mapping algorithm based on SAR images. In the framework of the proposed internship we aim to continue developing the algorithm with the objective to increase its performances, especially in urban areas. To this aim, it is planned to include optical imagery in the processing chain in order to increase the classification accuracy.

One post will focus on the development and implementation of calibration concepts for the Flexible Combined Imager (FCI) of Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) and the METimage and 3MI optical imagers of the EUMETSAT Polar System – Second Generation (EPS-SG).
