PhD - Assimilation of ocean colour data to constrain the state and parameters of marine biogeochemical models

Date added: 02 May 2018

The University of Reading is seeking to recruit one PhD student. This project will develop a computationally efficient data assimilation scheme suitable for implementation in operational forecasting or reanalysis, whilst making fullest use of the empirical information from the observations combined with knowledge of model processes.

PhD - Multi-scale spectral remote sensing of vegetation stress

Date added: 02 May 2018

The University of Tasmania is offering a 3-year fully funded PhD scholarship for an Honours or equivalent graduate in Geography and Spatial Sciences. The study will be part of an Australian Research Council project "Bridging scales in remote sensing of vegetation stress" aiming at development of new remote sensing methods for mapping pre-visual stress and vegetation health at regional scales from optical Earth observations of the latest space-borne missions. The new approaches under development will use modern computer radiative transfer models in combination with measurements from unmanned aircraft systems (UAS/drones).

Date added: 02 May 2018

Application deadline: 31 May 2018

The University of Stirling is seeking to recruit one PhD student to join a team with internationally recognised expertise in Earth observation. This PhD project will: a) Define optimal algorithms to retrieve Chl-a (within the context of coloured dissolved organic matter and suspended particulates) in oligotrophic and mesotrophic inland waterbodies; b) Use hyperspectral simulations and observation data to determine optimal configurations of said algorithms in the context of current and future satellites, to ultimately assess which (future) satellite configurations offer essential 'breakthrough' capabilities to monitor these waterbodies?
